NONIMMIGRANT VISA CHECKLIST
BEFORE SUBMITTING AN APPLICATION, MAKE SURE YOU HAVE THE NECESSARY DOCUMENTS REQUIRED TO BE ABLE TO OBTAIN YOUR VISA.
NB: You must answer all questions on the application form. Additionally, please verify that you have signed your application.
There is no need for you to drop off your
documents before the interview, you can just make the appointment by using
our online system. This also means that it is a must to use only electronic
visa applications DS 156 which have to be filled out on our website and
then printed out, handwritten applications will not be accepted. When
you have prepared all of the required and supplementary documentation, you
are ready to schedule an appointment. Children under 14 years old do not have to come to an interview. Children, who are 14 and above, have to come to an interview. You do not have to arrive at the
Embassy until the time of your appointment and you should be prepared to
spend at least half an hour there.
Please note that you will not receive your visa at the interview. All passports and visas will be returned using the ELS express mail system. Visa applicants will be asked to fill out an ELS form at the Embassy, providing a delivery address, telephone number, and preferred delivery time. Delivery of the passports will take place within two days up to one week of the interview date. Visa recipients will be charged a 50-60 EEK fee by ELS at the time of delivery.
All applicants must submit the following documents:
VALID PASSPORT: The original passport is required. Estonian passports must be valid for at least six months beyond the date of intended travel.
ONE PHOTOGRAPH (Attached to your DS-156 Form): Color photo, less than six months old, 5 x 5 cm, against a white background, where you are facing the camera directly.
Only one photo is needed. Please staple it to your DS-156. Staple at the edge. This is the only photo we need. If needed, cut it out from adjoining photos.

COMPLETED DS-156 APPLICATION FORM (Download the Electronic DS-156 in English.
Please fill out this form ONLY in computer and after that press "CONTINUE" and print out the completed application.
You must use this form. You may answer in English or Estonian, but only the above form may be used at the interview. Make sure you sign your document. More information: Forms
COMPLETED DS-157 APPLICATION FORM (Can be downloaded at DS-157in English /
DS-157 eesti keeles. All men ages 16-45 must complete this form. You may answer in English or Estonian.
COURT AND POLICE RECORDS: Persons who have been arrested or convicted for any offense or crime must provide a police record in original, copies of court records and of any prison records, even though subject of a pardon, amnesty, or other act of clemency. NOTE! If you have not been arrested you don’t need to submit any records.
Depending on what visa you are applying for, you may need to submit additional information. Please make sure you have the right documents required for your visa type:
Tourist Visa (B2):
PROOF OF FINANCE: If someone else will be financing your trip, we need both a bank statement and a letter of consent from this person.
EMPLOYMENT LETTER: Stating the type of contract, how long you have been employed for, your salary, and for how long you have been granted vacation or leave. This only applies to people that have employers.
Business Visa (B1):
EMPLOYMENT LETTER: With specific details about the purpose of your trip, the length, and who will be financing the trip.
INVITATION LETTER: If you will be attending a conference, or visiting a company. If you are going as a volunteer, a letter of invitation describing the organization you are going to work for should be brought to the interview.
Au pair/Student/Exchange visitor visas (J1 or F1):
COMPLETED DS-158 APPLICATION FORM (Can be downloaded at DS-158 in English/DS-158 Eesti keeles)
PROOF OF FUNDS TO COVER ALL EXPENSES: For example: scholarship letter or bank statement.
DS-2019: For J1 Exchange Visitor (includes au pairs) status you must include the original SEVIS DS-2019 form. Family members seeking J2 status need their own copies of the DS-2019 form.
I-20 FORM: For F1 and M1 students the original SEVIS I-20 form must be included. Family members seeking F2 and M2 status need their own I-20 form.
Please note that you will have either a DS-2019 or an I-20 form, not both. If you will be doing your OPT, please bring the OPT card with you.
Make sure you sign all your documents.
Proof of payment of the SEVIS fee. All student and exchange visa applicants presenting I-20 or DS-2019 forms issued on or after September 1, 2004, must present proof of payment. Instructions on how to pay can be found on https://www.fmjfee.com/index.jhtml. Do not confuse the SEVIS fee with the applications fee listed earlier. Both fees must be paid.
Note! 2006 "Summer Work-Travel" J-1 visa applicants will be told by their local Estonian recruiting company how and when to apply for their visa
Temporary Work Visa (H,L,O or P):
I-797 WORK PERMIT: Applicants for H,L,O or P visas need to submit the "Notice of Action", please visit http://www.dhs.gov
BLANKET L PETITION: Applicants with Blanket L1 petitions must submit 3 copies of the petition. For the blanket L visa an additional fee of $500 or equivalent in Estonian kroons will be charged at the time of the interview, payable in cash.
Please note that you should have either a work permit or a Blanket L petition, http://www.dhs.gov not both.
Dependants of work visa applicants applying separately need to send a copy of one of the objects stated above, together with a copy of the principal applicant's visa and civil documents (marriage certificate or birth certificate) proving the family relationship.
Treaty Investors (E-2 visa):
COMPANY APPROVAL LETTER: E-2 visa applicants need to submit documents proving the qualification of their company for E-2 status. http://www.dhs.gov
Dependants of work visa applicants applying separately need to send a copy of one of the objects stated above, together with a copy of the principal applicant's visa and civil documents (marriage certificate or birth certificate) proving the family relationship.
Crew visa (C1/D):
GUARANTEE LETTER: Stating your name, occupation and length of employment
Media visa ( I ):
EMPLOYMENT LETTER: Stating employment status; whether your position is permanent or temporary, your purpose of travel and length of stay. You must also bring proof of membership in a professional journalistic organization. Freelance media workers must also submit a valid contract of employment.

When travelling in groups of six or more, please send us an e-mail to VisaTallinn@state.gov in order to make an appointment. Do not use the online system.
Visa interviews will take place on Monday, Wednesday and Friday between 10:00 - 11:30.
Interview times can be scheduled only two months in advance!
